Don't know if it had been mentioned already, but downtown Athens is apparently getting a CFA as a number of you have been wishing for. Seems it will be where Five Guys was.

I wish it would go back to being a Chinese Buffet. That’s the one thing DT is missing.

Don't they still have that Japanese place that was next to where Aftermath used to be?

I thought there was one around somewhere? Still this will be an awesome spot for CFA.

Let’s agree to disagree. I would support a Chinese buffet just for nastalgia but generally I prefer unique places downtown, not chains and franchises. Rising rents are making that harder for local startups which is why you are seeing alot more traditionally townie type mom and pop business sprouting up around Boulevard, Chase, Normaltown, and recently Winterville.

Was an 18+ club over closer to little italy and this Japanese place we’d always go to. They closed it down while I was there so idk what it was before or after. Lot of the Clarke Co HS kids frequented it.

I don't disagree. Way back when, the same argument existed against Starbucks. Blue Sky went the way of the dodo and current students are none the wiser.

Exactly. They're done downtown.

if a constantly busy five guys couldn’t survive there, I don’t know how another fast food model will survive. We had this topic a while back here, I forgot what the reasons were for five guys closing. I

A soul food meat and three would be perfect, but make it really really high end and fancy so as to differentiate from mayflower and weaver. Do something wacky like putting buttermilk battered deep fried rattlesnake chunks on the menu.

I never found out what the reasons for its closure were. But this CFA is being opened by the owner of the Barnett Shoals and Beechwood locations, so it's safe to say he has good backing. I would dare say that CFA, in general, has the franchising thing down much better than Five Guys, too.

I heard a rumor that the new CFA will be serving biscuits until 1AM. Can anyone confirm?

No idea.

I was a “Grilled Teriyaki” guy but that place closed down my sophomore or junior year

I get what you are saying, but that's not really the point. The fast food model wasn't generating enough money to stay in business at that location, apparently. $7-$12 tickets werent doing it. That location probably needs $15-$18 tickets to pay the rent and still make money.

Just a guess. I have no inside info.

Consider volume. There's no reality where Five Guys turns the product faster than CFA. I know it always seemed busy, but that was an illusion. There were plenty of times it was not. Plus, it lost business to better burger joints. CFA stores are the most profitable fast food restaurants per location in the country. Location won't change that.

I heard some rediculous thing about the peanuts and the proximity to residents with potential allergies was going to force them to do some costly renovation to comply with some regulation.

I figured that was rediculous and blew it off as a rumor. That's all I got.
