On Friday morning, homeless web developer David Casarez woke from his park bench in Mountain View, Calif., put on a nice shirt and tie, and carried his hand-written cardboard sign to a nearby highway median.
“HOMELESS,” the sign read.
“HUNGRY 4 SUCCESS. TAKE A RESUME.”
It turned out to be the perfect job search strategy.
A passerby’s photo of him standing on the median holding the sign soon went viral on Twitter, and by Saturday afternoon, he’d been flooded with more than 200 job offers.
quote:
Casarez grew up in the border town of Laredo, Texas.
He earned a bachelor’s in management information systems from Texas A&M University, landed a good web developer job at General Motors in Austin, but then cashed out his 401(k) and drove to Silicon Valley to pursue the dream of his own tech startup — only to run out of cash in June.

Good on him. But i'll say the same thing I said in the other thread - only a complete dumbfrick would quit his job without another one lined up while simultaneously cashing out his 401k. I don't care if he is a millionaire next year, he's still a dumbfrick. You don't have to put everything at risk to pursue your dreams
I mean, why couldn't he have budgeted and saved money to move out west instead of pissing away a 401k that will compound exponentially for him in later years?

If I were writing a book about quickest ways to become homeless, this would be included.

Exactly
It's like "man, why is this college graduate homeless?"
Well, he quit his job at a good company, cashed out a 20k 401k account, and moved to one of the most expensive places in the U.S. to live without any real plan and no real idea other than to become like those guys in HBO's Silicon Valley.
Oh, so you're saying he's a fricking retard? Wouldn't that have been easier?
Yea, that's basically what I'm saying.

Yeah I’m all for taking risks and leaps of faith in your career when you’re at the point to do so, ie no family and kids, but he took it a little too far. Good for him being creative though and getting back out there

Apparently, not with the Aggie network
I'm about to cash out homies! I expect y'all to pick me up when I fall down. Just don't expect me to hold a sign in this damn heat.

100% this. Not the wisest move, but I do applaud him for busting a** to get another job instead of looking for a free handout.
