He actually didn't the last 3rd of his career...his
'10,'11,'12 and '13 classes were pitiful.ArKY had more drafted from those classes and UF had double the amount
drafted and 3x as many 1st rounders.

If Miami wins a natty it’ll be despite Richt not because of Richt. Richt is a very good CFB coach but he isn’t great in that winning isn’t the only thing that matters to him. He stayed at Miami as a player with no chance of playing because that’s who he is....and by all accounts had some talent and a shot at the NFL....just did not have the burning desire to win. Way to happy when getting beat to be as great as his knowledge of the game would allow. Richt is a hall of fame coach but he is just different than the truly great ones.....you have to have some deeply rooted emotional shite going on to do what the great ones accomplish....the same as in all aspects of life. He has the talent, experience and knowledge....just not the desire to prove over and over that he is elite.

Lots of bullshite here.

#1- Richt got his fair share of flags from cussing out refs. And that's on national TV. He was very fiery off camera. He had plenty of passion and fire in him.

#2- When he was QB at Miami, he was buried on the depth chart behind Jim Kelly, Vinnie Testaverde, and Bernie Kosar. Maybe you've heard of them. Yet he still earned enough playing time to amass 1500 yards.

#3- When he was in the NFL, he was a backup to John Elway. WOmp Womp. The fizzling of his career had nothing to do with a lack of fire.

As a coach at FSU, he was a fricking badass.

As a coach at UGA, he was a fricking badass in more years than he wasn't.

You, sir, are full of shite.

Regarding the original question on whether or not he can win it all in Miami, I don't know. With Florida and FSU down, he has to take advantage of that recruiting, but people like Saban and Smart and others are filling that void better than Richt is. That will be the key.

It's possible, but I really think Bama will go after Dabo to replace Saban before they call Smart

Why would Smart leave his alma mater for a lateral move.

Georgia gave Richt more than any SEC school at least thru about 2008.

So why was he having to pay his coaches out of his own pocket?

Actually friends smartazz. Neil C. and Pat D. Except Pat played at UGA and coached at the other two. But Neil is the guy I spent a lot of time with. Haven't seen him since he went west. None of your business what we talk about but he was big on support from the school. And he loved AU, sent his daughter to school there years after he left their employment. Loyal guy who worked for the "Love Coach" @ Houston where I first met him and where he made the relationships with Kim's sons. Best pass blocking OL coach around, strange as that sounds given his background.

He did tell me the support structure @ AU was great as well and again Alabama was a nightmare when he was there. That's basically why Stallings left from there plus he couldn't stand the AD. Stallings went public once by saying "if you take a coaching job @ Alabama you'd better get it in writing in your contract the things you need to be successful otherwise you'll never see a penny brother"..Obviously things changed with NS.

Just stop Bowl. The only way Kirby Smart will ever leave the best job in America is if he is fired from UGA and the odds of that happening are virtually zero. Alabama wouldn't bother even asking him to leave.

He last won a conference title in 2005. Forget about national title.

Anyway, I tend to think this is the year where we'll see if he'll make Miami a playoff team (at minimum) or if he'll just continue to have his typical good but not great Richt years.

Being second or third fiddle his entire career at every job he’s had is the point. Nothing other than his willingness to stay at Miami when he was never going to be the starter kept him there..... he was satisfied in his role as a supporting cast member instead of being the star. He is like almost every person on earth in this regard.....which by definition means he ain’t a champion. He just doesn’t have the drive to be #1....... great coach, great person by all accounts....but he ain’t a stud and he knows it....and doesn’t care. Very few people are top dogs....that’s why being a champion is so rare.....very few have the drive it takes. Many are successful....no one would argue Richt ain’t among that group.....very few are elite...and even fewer would argue that Richt is among that group....most notably Richt himself.

If he couldn't do it at Georgia then no way he does it in Miami. A shame he doesn't care enough to put in the extra work or he definitely would already have a ring or two.
