Note 4: Most do not know how good Vaught was from the late 40s til the early 60s. No NC, but very close 3 times and 6 SEC titles. 1952-1963 4 top 5s, 8 top 7s, 10 top 11s. OM was who Alabama and Bryant had to dethrone in the SEC, not UT.

Vaught has 3 NCs.

OM has no wire service (AP 1936-, UP/Coaches 1950-) poll NCs. That is how most in the media and most fans count them. If you start using all selectors, then we have chaos. Bama has been chosen by some selector(s) or another in 30 different seasons. They have 12 wire service, AP and/or Coaches NCs. They also count 4 pre 36 NCs where they went undefeated/untied (except for 26 tie with unblemished Stanford in RB and shared NC) and won the Rose Bowl. For some inexplicable reason (if they want to count some non-wire service NC there are many more deserving seasons) they chose to count 1941. I and many other Bama fans do not.

Again, OM had some great seasons, but no wire service NCs. Bama was unblemished, 10-0 Rose Bowl champs in 45 and 2 time defending NCs and only unblemished team in 66 and claim neither because they did not win either wire service NC.

Obviously, anyone can count NCs however they like. I do it the way I described.
