CWS Pitcher Strategy

I heard during one of Florida’s games Kyle Peterson say O’Sullivan is using his pitchers to win the tourney instead of just advancing since winning is the overall goal. Which if that is his strategy he has already proved it to work. But also there is the strategy of just playing to win the current game just to get to finals and then piece it together. I see where both could be beneficial but which would y’all prefer if y’all were HC?

I've always had the opinion that you have to win the game right now to even make it to the finals, but I know it can work both ways. Last year we had to use everything to get to the finals, and because of that we had to make it to game 3 to be able to use Lange. It didn't work out for us, but we would have never been in that position had we not used our best arms. That strategy worked out well for Florida last year, but you saw it kind of bite them in the arse this year. Both strategies require a lot of lucky bounces going your way because it takes a good bit of luck to win a tournament like this.

I don't care at this point. I just want Knight to win tonight and Murphy to win the next game.

I'd prefer to win now and worry about the rest later. As a HC you'd have to think you have a strategy before the situation arises..

In large part based on situation. Hard to question what O'Sullivan does with his staff, given his track record.
Once you lose a game, I'm a firm believer that you have to do everything within reason to survive and advance. What was the context of the comment?

When will this end. Baseball season is over. Football is here almost.

Pitching is just one component. UF lost this year because defense went in the tank and the bats got too inconsistent. Pitching wasn't too much of an issue. The mistake O'Sullivan made was allowing JJ Schwartz to put on a 1B mitt and take the field. He shold have been a DH only.

I’d go with playing to win the current game today. Of course I am basing that on armchair quarterbacking how our two games with OSU played out. Before that I’d have said win the tourney.

Against Texas in 09 PM could have used Ranaudo in Game 2 but he essentially threw game 2 and took his chances with Ranaudo in Game 3 and it worked. Jungman shoved in Game 2 and no matter who LSU Pitched they probably would not have beaten Jungman
