I guess I should really relax on thinking that I'm underpaid.

Lot of folks who chose to work in necessary jobs that don't pay a whole lot included there (teachers, coaches, non-profits, etc). That's one of the jobs of big state schools is to staff those professions.

Curious of the percentage of A&M alum that work in the oil and gas industry....
List seems accurate for the most part.
at USC being behind the Mississippi schools.

Per the unscientific linkedin school page, outside of people who work at A&M (which is always a little screwy because linkedin just pulls from the individuals page, and a lot of people have their current school as their employer), all the top employers are oil and gas
2. Chevron (824)
3. Shell (740)
4. Halliburton (733)
5. ExxonMobil (652)

Seems like a lot of people are going to college and getting shitty degrees. Making less than 40k at 34 is awful

I assume most of those are teachers/non-profits/part-time work/etc in rural places (which is a lot of the South). Most of those folks understand they are sacrificing pay to do something they want to do/think needs to be done.
Just my guess.

First year out of college and I’m making more than the median at 34?
These seem kinda low

Think of all the coaching, teaching, social worker, accounting, marketing, finance, etc. degrees these state universities churn out.
They all start super low, and most stay low. The business school types can advance quickly, but it's probably tougher with a state U degree.
If you are an engineer, lawyer, vet, or med school type, then you're pulling the median up and these will seem super low.
These state schools, like mine, make their living off selling these low paying type degrees in bulk.

Agree with most of those. Accounting definitely ain't a churn and burn degree, though.

Man, this list can't be right unless its including unemployed people.
Looks right for age 24 maybe.

I'm a high school dropout and I haven't seen less than 65k annually since about 23, and I just made 37.

You guys are underestimating how many teachers/case workers/journalism folks/marketing people/etc are churned out and live in places with really low costs of living while not being the sole source of income for their family.
I'm guessing if these stats were segregated out for majors/industries they'd look a lot different.

I'm "over 34", and a Walton College grad with pretty much no other connections and I haven't made less than $45,000 in my career, and now make three times that.

Accounting seems like a weird one to stick in there.
