There is no point to red-shirting him. He won't be here 5 years. He'll transfer if it takes that long to play.

It’s a good thing it happened in the first 7 minutes of the season vs a scrub team.

Bama loses the national title if they redshirt their backup qb rather than give him real snaps. Depends on how we use those snaps. To run out the clock, which is worthless, or prep the backups to be ready, like saban did.
Want to expand your memory? Then go back to our first game of 2002. We needed a backup qb off the bench to win that game.
