Especially considering all those 10-win seasons.

You clearly forgot about 1993 and 2004.

A lot of UGA fans are pumped about being runner-up, so there's that.

This, this is true.

"Auburn is broken!!!" is pretty odd from the only Big 6 school to not win a title in the modern era.

Particularly when you consider how close they were to glory.

Yess.....you guys won 10 games in 1993 and 2004. So you are proving my argument. UGA had a drop off in the 90s and didn't start getting good again until 2002

I wouldn't call 2017 a lackluster year for Auburn

4 losses, one to a non P5 team in a major bowl. A big loss in the SECCG. A loss to a LSU team when having a big lead. It certainly isn't the mark of a benchmark team, would you say?
A decent year? Yes. But the question you asked is why I thought Georgia was closer to being a benchmark program than Auburn. I wouldn't say Georgia is the benchmark program, just that we are closer than Auburn.

quote:

The only difference I see between the two this year is the difficulty of the schedule. UGA had a better signing class in 2018, but it's not like Auburn finished in the 30s.

But Auburn did not win the SEC, Georgia did with a win over Auburn. Add the recruiting class and that seems to answer your question as to why I think Georgia is closer right now than Auburn is to being a benchmark program.

(I'm not even sure what a benchmark program is, though.)

But didn't win a title did you guys?? Therefore auburn from 1960 to 2009 was worse for auburn than uga from 1981 to now. You guys have underachieved more.

Sure we did. Both of those teams have been recognized as national champions. I didn't even mention 1983, but that was before my fandom.

Your comment I was responding to:
Why is that? Serious question. Based on the last recruiting class?

Which part?

Isn't that what every UGA fan is doing now? You won the SEC lost some great players but assume, based on last season, you will be great going forward

Not bey Auburn. I mean, you can find a publication or somebody that recognizes up to 6 or 7 National Titles for Georgia over the years, but that doesn't mean they are. Your own school doesn't recognize them as titles.

Surely aren't suggesting that we start pulling out every sportswriter or publication that recognizes a National Championship. If we do that, then UCF won one last year. I don't think anybody outside of UCF recognizes them as National Champions.
