Should we hire Carl Reed?
We are doing an absolute terrible job recruiting STL.

I don’t know every position ford coaches does well. I think the STL disconnect runs deeper than one person

I'm sure you are right, and it would be a scapegoat thing but something has to change.

Typical Mizzou overreaction.
Coaches don’t really influence recruiting. It’s the schools and their reputation that really drive recruiting.

STL just seems weird to me I feel like at this point we could have a miracle season and still lose out on that city. Basketball(until recently) and football. That city has done Missouri no favors since I’ve been alive.

I think it’s all about perception. That’s why Nebraska still pops up on all these kids radar. It still ever so faintly has the scent of a blue blood. Every single year the schools the consider are FSU USC OSU NEB BAMA. All those schools have a lot of nattys and a lot of history. Hard to overcome that in a matter of months but it needs to be figured out.

For the most part, yes they do. That's why the same schools figure in the top of the recruiting rankings year after year.
We are essentially toxic to STL recruits right now and I'm not sure what we have to do to change it.
The most obvious thing would be to give the territory to someone else, but I'm not sure that's even the answer.
If Ford gets shut out in the STL metro two years in a row (which could very well happen) then I'm not sure how you justify keeping him.

There’s 1 way to change it, and that’s to win and win consistently while putting players in the NFL.

Understandable. I’m a big scheme and coach guy in football. I think going from CBs to RBs . Gaines Penton Dennis plus how frickin terrible our corners have been since he’s left that position and how good our running backs have done especially as freshmen I’m a big Ford guy. Got to get those recruits though no doubt. I guess I don’t have answer for you

Pinkel certainly did those things. That's not ancient history. He certainly didn't clean up in STL. Better than what we are doing now, no doubt, but it was still an issue.
Just frustrating to see, especially with the area producing more talent than ever.
I know we are going to have to identify and develop to win, but we should at least be getting our share from the largest area in our own state.

Even with pinkel the guys that did well were under the radar like golden and penton and the big cats that we did snagike Sheldon and Gabbert were committed to USC and Neb first. Just frustrating

Somebody doesn't want to admit that since Odom took over the state has had some big-time recruits and we have failed tremendously with 99% of them.
Mizzou's attendance and fanbase hasn't helped much either. There has been some chatter about Mizzou offering St. Louis players late compared to out of state schools. Illinois has been pointing that out to many St. Louis area recruits.

Actually Sheldon was committed to Mizzou, then USC then back to Mizzou. Of course, my memory could be faulty too.

Naw I cherry picked that one a little bit.

Can Cuonzo Martin recruit for us in football too?

I actually think our STL recruits dont do a good enough job recruiting the kids in stl. I know thats not their job(but they know they should) but they know what to say to the high schoolers.
