I guess when you know your team doesn't stand a chance you don't bother to show up.

Shitty thread title is going to stifle conversation.

I do think there's something wrong when people 1) would rather watch "on a cinema-quality screen with drink in hand than stepping out to view the real thing a few feet away" (referencing new state-of-the-art stadiums; 2) cannot afford the cost to attend a game at a stadium.

How lazy and pampered are we that we don't find enjoyment - no matter the age - in being outside on a nice fall afternoon with friends, yelling cheers and watching a good football game? And would instead lay on a couch in ultra-comfort with the a/c on us and a cold drink in hand?

And the economics are getting ridiculous. It's thousands of dollars to be a regular season attender (family of 3) to a football game. It's just too expensive for the average middle class family to support when they have other things to save for (retirement, college funds).

Then Alabama is ruining just about everything, then. Screw them for the marked decline in shopping at brick and mortars and sending telegrams.

Could it be the teams with the largest stadiums sucked ? UF and UT were not worth driving half a day to go see. Throw in FSU, LSU, A&M and Texas and you can see the decline. I wonder what the % of capacity was for teams in the Top 20 showed.

Costs are out of control.

Couple that with shite schedules then there is your answer.

Isn't Alabama still riding a consecutive home game sellout streak since 1988, or did I miss one?

The neutral site big game, big money financial model to off set 3 x super-doughy, stale icing cupcakes every year is beneficial to the fans and the school at UA.

Yes, salaries, recruiting, marketing etc. have raised the cost of admission, but it hasn't affected UA attendance. Instead, the lessor home games provide greater opportunity for a broader range of fans who can enjoy a reduced rate or free (when gifted/donated to friends, family, other organizations) exhibition game full of highlights reel plays and a glimpse at the future stars as they rotate in to play. A game they may otherwise not have been able to afford.

Missing out on traveling to see some historic, marquee stadiums sucks to a degree, but the juice is obviously not worth the squeeze. Besides, a home and home addition only further degrades the availability to attend for most as the home game tkt price rises on the aftermarket and the travel fans absorb additional costs.

The only change I'd like to see is the addition of another conference game to provide more opportunities to play cross-division teams. Plenty of cupcakes within the conference to make it worth it.

I don't got to Bama games for three reasons:

1. Too expensive, even with faculty/staff tickets. It would cost over $1000 to take my wife and son to 7 games and that's not counting the parking, concessions, etc. And in real terms, the per game cost would be even higher because as a result of numbers 2 & 3 below I'm sure as hell not going to see them play WKU, Mercer, UTC, etc., which means that I'm really paying over $1000 for maybe four real games. That's a bad return on investment any way you slice it.

2. I hate traffic with a passion.

3. Last time I went I felt like I was at a damn rave or something with all the piped in music and flashing lights. If that does something for some people, then great, but count me out. I'd rather not have epilepsy, thank you very much.

Excessive commercial breaks when you are sitting in the stands sucks.

At home I can get a snack, A BEER, take a piss with no line, check on the Boston Butt, etc.

Plus I can still get shite done around the house before and after.

Also no DUI fear.

There’s a bunch of reasons.

I also think we see the SEC dissolve it’s moratorium on alcohol sales in the next decade as well as a way to entice people back too. From a pure spectator perspective, no reason why they shouldn’t serve beer at games, and then throw in revenue impact as well.

Found this in the comments.

You mean realignment of conferences so we could get awesome traditional regional rivalries like Michigan-Rutgers and WVU-TCU isn’t drawing more fans? Weird.

Meh, according to this site LINK, Bama's home attendance has increased since the start of the Saban era to around 712,053 for 7 home games this year.

Bama's ranked #4 in home attendance.

The SEC has 5 teams in the top 10 for home attendance.
4. Bama
5. Texas A&M
6. LSU
7. Tennessee
9. Georgia

11. Florida
13. Auburn
23. Arkansas
26. Ole Miss
27. Mississippi St.

Teams are tired of watching shitty matchups. Its bullshite that Bama only has good OOC matchups on neutral sites.

Millennials are what's ruining football, along with everything else.

Is it a surprise that generation has much less interest in football than prior generations?

With demand softening prices should be coming down, but they aren't, if anything they are still going up, it's completely backwards.

Not much parity, higher cost, traffic and HDTV.
