The Recruiting Rankings Jump for Head Coaches (Year 1 to Year 2)

For a while, I've mentioned how much easier it is for coaches to pull recruits during their first full recruiting class, but had zero data to back that up. I feel like coaches are able to promise a bright future to the recruits and tell that kid how they're the type of player that will help put that program in the right direction. It's also one of the reasons I believe coaches like Pruitt, Mullen, and Fisher should at least be able to bring in top 10 classes next year. So I decided to look up the difference between a coach's transition class, to their first full class. I used all Power 5 coaches who are currently coaching and their 1st year was after the recruiting rankings began.
Steve Addazio 35 (86th to 51st)
Jim Harbaugh 29 (37th to 8th)
Mike Gundy 29 (47th to 18th)
Lovie Smith 27 (73rd to 46th)
Justin Wilcox 27 (70th to 43rd)
Dave Doeren 25 (59th to 34th)
Pat Fitzgerald 24 (71st to 47th)
DJ Durkin 23 (41st to 18th)
Chris Ash 22 (64th to 42nd)
PJ Fleck - 22 (59th to 37th)
Jeff Brohm - 22 (72nd to 50th)
Tom Herman - 22 (25th to 3rd)
Dave Clawson - 16 (67th to 51st)
Pat Narduzzi - 16 (46th to 30th)
Justin Fuente 16 (42nd to 26th)
David Shaw 15 (22nd to 7th)
Tom Allen 14 (62nd to 48th)
David Cutcliffe 13 (67th to 54th)
Larry Fedora 13 (41st to 28th)
Mark Stoops 12 (34th to 22nd)
Bobby Petrino 12 (45th to 33rd)
Chris Petersen 12 (38th to 26th)
Mark Dantonio 11 (53rd to 42nd)
Paul Johnson 10 (51st to 41st)
Mark Richt 10 (22nd to 12th)
James Franklin 10 (24th to 14th)
Matt Rhule 10 (40th to 30th)
Nick Saban 9 (12th to 3rd)
Dabo Swinney 9 (36th to 27th)
Dino Babers 8 (62nd to 54th)
Mike Leach 8 (58th to 50th)
Paul Chryst 6 (41st to 35th)
Kliff Kingsbury 6 (46th to 40th)
Clay Helton 6 (10th to 4th)
Bronco Mendenhall 5 (63rd to 58th)
Dana Holgerson 5 (35th to 30th)
Guz Malzahn 4 (10th to 6th)
Will Muschamp 4 (25th to 21st)
Kirby Smart 3 (6th to 3rd)
Urban Meyer 3 (5th to 2nd)
David Beatty 3 (73rd to 70th)
Matt Campbell 3 (55th to 52nd)
Kyle Wittingham 1 (57th to 56th)
Barry Odom 0 (43rd to 43rd)
Derek Mason -3 (46th to 49th)
Bill Snyder -6 (70th to 76th)
Mike MacIntyre -6 (68th to 74th)
Ed Orgeron -8 (7th to 15th)
By points the biggest rise in the 247 rankings were Harbaugh (85.56) and Herman (82.30), and the biggest fall was Orgeron at (-33.28). And just fwiw, I don't think this is necessarily the best indication on recruiting going forward. A lot of coaches revert more towards their transition class #s, while others like Franklin and Swinney have continued to rise, in large part due to success on the field.

Hmm what was Mullens first compared to 2nd year at State?
Edit: I found it. He went from 18th to 30th. Man he sucked at recruiting.

I seriously don't think there's any left. I HATE Orgeron as our head coach. HATE. IT. But this really was a terrible year talent wise in Louisiana. And if we would have gotten Surtain I think someone said we would have been 9th or 10th. But.. Surtain didn't come here so it's not like it really matters. But if Orgeron doesn't at LEAST bring in a top 7 class next year then he's fallen off as a recruiter. Louisiana is stacked next year with the number 1 overall player as well. I'm sure he'll go to Bama though. I'm getting used to it lol. Especially kids from Amite.

Only on the rant. You’ll beat us next year.
Not much of a troll though ... since it was backed up by empirical evidence

Yeah... that's not great. I expect him to do better at Florida, but I think you would know much more than me about his recruiting ability.

The math on some of these doesn't add up
Thats 16 spots not 25
Thats 42 and would be the leader assuming the rest of this is correct.

We only signed 23, and one of those was a grad kicker who is no points. O stocked the lines and WR. Was a good class except for CB.

I think he'll have a top 10 class pretty comfortably in year 2 at UF. I don't know what goes on at MSU, but he has been very active and well received on the trail.
