I don’t think you can compare Ole Miss to Clemson when the ACC as a whole doesn’t recruit on the level the SEC does (particularly the Atlantic division, which is a laugh factory compared to the SEC West, outside of Clemson, F$U, and sometimes Notre Dame or Louisville). Also, last I checked, Dabo is one of the best coaches in the country, certainly better than anyone we’ve had since Vaught, and Clemson also isn’t still in the process of appealing a verdict the NCAA took over five full years to reach. Otherwise, yeah, sure, why can’t we be Clemson? Why not just be Alabama if we’re gonna reach for the stars though?
I’m not happy that we’re not going to be getting the #1 OL in the country from out of state or the #1 WR in the country, also from out of state, in this the 2018-2019 recruiting cycle, but at the same time I’m a realist about it. We got sent to football jail less than a year ago, and we’re still in the process of trying to litigate our way out of it. That fact alone is going to affect the caliber of player we’re likely to receive, and we’re paying hefty legal fees at the expense of other areas in the athletic program.
I can be happy that we’re not recruiting any worse than we did before Freeze arrived and told the rest of the country to frick off before absconding with a bunch of blue chips to Oxford. Unless we hired someone like Chip Kelly or Jimbo Fisher, neither of whom were ever going to coach in Oxford (for the Rebels that is), we weren’t going to be getting 5*s this cycle unless one of the in-state 4*s got upgraded and was already an Ole Miss lean. It’s not like the other guys who could’ve been our coach, Chad Morris or Jeremy Pruitt, are lighting it up on the crootin’ trail either, and they don’t even have the excuse of being on probation.
I’m not saying we should be ok with mediocrity, but I also don’t have some grandiose opinion of my alma mater that ignores the fact that Ole Miss is still in the process of getting fricked over for doing the same sort of shite every other school does but was too fricking stupid not to get caught

No, he is not. He's a great recruiter who gets to spend a lot of money on assistants and players.

I agree with your statement. For now, maybe I shouldn’t say expect, but we’re not going to get those #1 recruits. And we all know other teams are using our on going deal with the NCAA against us. I honestly thought we would be very down recruiting right now, but at least we’re staying about the same until we get a better coach in place. I honestly believe Luke is just a stop gap. We’re saving money with him so we can get a better coach in a year or so. I like Luke as a person, but not as a coach. How many times were threads started just for him, to be fired as O-line coach? I’m glad he loves Ole Miss, but that’s not a reason to promote. We pulled an Ed O. We will probably finish in the top 20 which isn’t terrible considering the position we’re in. And maybe even better if some of our commits get a bump this year. We need to have a decent season also.
I think we will be fine if we can piece together a good class, decent season, and honestly look at other coaches. I know some will criticize my thinking of Luke, since he was just given the full time job, but we need to look beyond the GOB system if we want to be competitive.
We have the money to bring in someone, but at the same time we need to be picky about it and not jump on just some “name”.

This entire post is why OM will always remain a mediocre program.
