It was a beef over player per diems.....
There was a beef over the rules and refs. Remember that was the football pre-historic era, leather helmut days........

That's what ended it, but Auburn's coach had been threatening to kill the series for two years because Alabama was using offensive formations that were too fancy for his simple view of that side of the ball.
