Who is a good fit for us at his Rover and 3rd Saftey... where do we see the Returning guys Plugging in?
Donovan Wilson will be a returning 5th year senior and is pretty much the perfect fit for such a role.
Watching film of Elko's defenses, he also likes using a safety as one of his linebackers in a true nickel defense when the offense has three wide and a TE on the field.

Elko uses a system that is rooted in a base 4 man front which the players clearly know well. I thought the rover was going to be the wildcard, moving around and giving the base defense a different look and some unpredictability. Turns out I was wrong. The rover’s responsibilities are pretty static in the base defense. When Elko wants to change things up and add some wrinkles on 1st and 2nd down he tends to stay in a 4 man front and activate the safeties. It’s hard to predict what they will do on any given play. They might stay deep, they might come down towards the line of scrimmage, they might play man to man or they might blitz.
I would think Wilson would be better used in one of the safety positions vs the rover. Rover seems like it needs to be more of a coverage LB. I probably want more size.
edit: just checked ND's depth chart. Both listed under Rover we're 6'2" 230. Wake's 2016 (Aug) depth chart shows 6'1" 215 and 6'3" 225.
