Is there a coach who is better at quickly addressing position needs than Saban?

I was worried about the DL in this class...just as I was worried about RB in 2012 (signed 4 4/5 star RBs), LB in 2014 (sugned 5 4/5 star LBs), etc...

The guy can identify players and go get them.

This DL group will be as good as any Bama has had by the 2019 season.

He’s one of the best. Pete Carroll comes to mind too.

I’ve always been impressed with the hidden gems he and his staff find. They’ve been some of our best players over the years.

I have a hard time believing this group will be better than the Jonathan Allen, A'Shawn Robinson, Tim Williams combo. But if it is, that would be incredibly impressive.

This group can be good. But the 2015 DL was freaking insane deep. It was a legit 10-12 man rotation. In a 3-4 base defense. The reserves that came back in 2016 made an impressive starting DL.

Saban is elite when it comes to roster management. It's a different skill than recruiting and a very underrated part of sustaining success.

He's the best. No question.

He also doesn't recruit based solely on rankings, although he gets his 5*s, but he doesn't take a 5* just because he's a 5*. In other words, he doesn't sign a David Askew or a Chris Donald or an Ethan Wolf. He identifies the type of player who can play in this conference. Size, speed, and toughness.

His recruiting big board is legendary. But we’ve rarely gotten glimpses of the ranking system. Those who dared take snap shots of the grease board died a horrible death.

100%. He also thinks way ahead of time. Their entire secondary is either graduating or leaving for the NFL in the same year. He knows how to manage a roster (one of the biggest problems Muschamp/McElwain had). Stars aren't always important, but he never comes up short with what he needs. It's really impressive.

How many times has he signed a 3* and that dude ends up being a first or second day draft pick? Too many to remember.

It ain't luck, he does his homework. Doesn't waste a scholarship. And DEVELOPES his players.

You know that any kid that gets a committable offer from Alabama, regardless of where rivals/ESPN/247/scout has them ranked, that kid can play.

His overall PK recruiting hasn't been that great. We'll see how the QB play/situation unfolds vs CU as well.

I'd imagine many coaches can identify just as well. Getting them is the trick.

This is a very good point. We will see with time how good O is at this....but I have been very impressed with how he has filled needs in the last two classes. Miles on many occasions went after higher ranked players but always left holes. Esp in the trenches/LB position. And his evaluations of QB’s was atrocious. We are stacked with players now in all those areas, (we’ll see at QB, but excited to have Narcisse/Brennan on campus)..has it cost us a few spots in the rankings? Yes....but it will pay off big time in the end imo.
