which has nothing to do with us winning the conference by beating Auburn...

and end up ranked behind Auburn in the final polls

and what a fine consolation that would be.

UGA wins the SEC and makes the playoffs, AU plays a directional school in the peach bowl at noon on new years day. But hey congrats on the poll ranking!

Gus interviewed yesterday basically said his ribs and shoulder were still banged-up. He said he'd know KJ would want to play, but they'd just have to see. Didn't sound real positive.

Wow. When he was in the SECCG, I figured he was banged up, but thought it wasn't that bad, since Gus had him in the game. If it is going to take longer than a month to get him healthy he must have been banged up worse than I thought.

He's an excellent back. I hope he recovers soon and is able to play without injuring himself any further.

KJ only has 60 more carries this year than Chubb and Michel combined. Gus rode his arse into the ground and KJ is clearly paying the price.

You act like we didn't beat the dog crap out of Auburn.

Yes, I've seen all the excuses. Injuries. Refs. Tired.

Didn't Auburn fans start a thread talking about all the excuses Georgia fans made after our fist meeting?
Seems rather hypocritical for Auburn fans to be doing the same now.

Not sure why UGA fans keep throwing this out there like this is some huge insult

No doubt he did that. For some reason Gus seems to like to ride his RB's hard. Did it to Pettway earlier in the year. I don't know if he just doesn't trust his back ups, or is scared he will destroy his rhythm. It cost them this year, and a lack of depth (at QB) cost them last year.

Also not sure why UGA fans seem to take this so personally. Of course they have less carries, you have 2 great backs.

The same reason Auburn fans like to throw our first game out at us, would be my guess. It really isn't a dig from either side, imo.

well, considering the night before is likely the biggest drinking day of the entire year...noon the following day isn't exactly the most prime time slot.

And although I'm busting chops, the peach bowl is a solid bowl. The time slot just sucks. As does the perception of the opponent.

how exactly are we taking it personally? It's stating a black and white fact. We have 2 great backs that would start for probably 100 other teams. Both of them combined barely have less carries than your 1 guy, who was splitting carries for 5 games with another very high quality back.

It's simply pointing out that had Gus not ridden him like a rented mule, perhaps his body wouldn't be as banged up. Is that really so crazy?

Yes. And I get blasted for saying how GusShortBus doing this not only cost them on the field, but it will cost them on the recruiting trail. Kids pay attention that you are not giving carries and opportunities to other RBs. Kam Martin was running all over the place in SECC, and he got pulled for a severly hurt KJ. And it ended up costing them.

Stop and think for a minute, though, Duncan. Kerryon was out early in the season for you guys and he rode Pettway too hard, until he was put out for the year. (Maybe his usage had soemthign to do with it, maybe not) Then he rode Kerryon hard and he was hurt late in the season. Had Gus played some of your back ups earlier, you might have had Pettway all year, and then had a healthy Kerryon going into the SECCG. Who knows what would have happened.

I will preface the above by saying I am really not sure about what happened to Pettway, and his usage might not have had anything to do with him being out. But 30+ carries almost every game in the SEC is way too many.
I don't think that happened with Gurley, Chubb or Michel more than maybe once or twice. You guys had more backs. Just giving them a breather MIGHT have made a difference in your entire year.

If I were a running back I would make careful note about injuries to other running backs and how they are used.

I should have read your post before making mine. But we seem to be agreeing, particularly about the recruiting angle.

Anyway...I hope you guys do well in your bowl game. I know it isn't what you guys were hoping for, but it is still a solid bowl.

And, Gus has gotten you guys to the big game before, maybe he can do it again.

None of our backs averaged that many. That was the perception with Mason too and it wasn't correct.

yeah 30 is ridiculously high but KJ did average 24 carries a game this year. That's a lot.

Prior to the SECCG he averaged 26.5 carries a game in SEC play. That's a lot.

Just out of curiosity, where did you find those stats? What I saw showed just under 22/game.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see some other backs get more carries, but we were without Pettway for a few games as well.

Does Alabama raise some kind of banner for playing (and losing) in the playoff?

It's not too far off.

Alabama-30
UGA-32 (First game)
A&M-29
LSU-31
Ole Miss-28
MState-23 (Pettway played this game)
Mizzou-18
Clemson-18 (Pettway)
Mercer-34 (Pettway)

Except for the Clemson game a single RB had a very heavy workload. You only ran the ball against us in the SECCG 31 times total, and he was badly banged up, so i didnt include that game.
The other games I didn't look at ebcause they were blowouts and I figured they did not run the ball as much. But in big games, Gus certainly did run your running backs hard. Those would have been the games where there would be a ton of punishment.

I mean, he had Kan Maritn available. Just a few (5-19) carries a game and you might have had Pettway and/or Kerryon available against us in the SECCG and then...who knows?

Look, I'm not trying to push hate on Gus. (I guess I am, but that is not my intent) I am just saying it seems he could lighten the load a bit. That's how we discovered Herrien was so good.
