SMU interim Jeff Traylor could end up back with Chad Morris at Arkansas, but I’m told he also has significant traction with Missouri as OC.

Along with Elarbee, Josh Heupel also hired Mizzou strength coach Kurt Schmidt as UCF's director of sports performance. He was in his first year at MU as director of applied performance under head strength coach Rohrk Cutchlow

Some more info on Traylor.

Meanwhile, Traylor showed in short order as an assistant at Texas — that he was an elite recruiter. In fact, he established himself as perhaps the best recruiter on a staff full of proven ones under Charlie Strong.

may very well be the most recognizable college assistant coach to the thousands of Texas high school coaches across the Lone Star State.

Traylor essentially brought the spread offense to East Texas when he took over the head coaching position in 2000 at Gilmer

Although I think it’s very important we hire a very good OC, I don’t want to go to an all out air raid offense.
We had a pretty good balance this year in run/pass offensively. In the SEC an all out air attack will never work. Big 12 style offenses won’t win in the SEC. it puts asses in the seats, but doesn’t win championships.
I like it that we are recruiting bigger running backs. I like it when we stretch the defense with successful deep passes. But 2 things you have to do in the SEC. you must be able to run the ball on offense, and you must be able to stop the run on defense. Controlling the LOS is huge in this league. Sometimes it ain’t pretty like throwing the ball all over the place, but it wins, and that’s whats important in our pursuit of our next OC.

Traylor isn’t an air raid guy. SMU ran an offense similar to Clemson.

The other options also have coached offenses that run the ball well.

Yeah I know, but some of the names I’ve seen mentioned on here would not be suitable to me, and I don’t think would be a good fit for Mizzou.

Which names are those?
Harrell is the obvious guy that makes the most sense.

Freeze, Briles, and any of the rest that are pass happy guys. Remember, Lock will only be here 1 more year at most. Not sure what we have behind him have his golden arm.

Briles comes from the Baylor system that’s all about running the ball.

If it’s a Mahlzan or Freeze type of high school coach that might be ok.

I don't know about direct from high school candidates. Morris, Traylor, and Briles all three are more desirable candidates because of their experience and contacts from time as TX high school coaches.

Rock M has thrown a new name out there after glancing at Odom's recent follows on Twitter. Todd Monken - OC Tampa Bay Buccaneers, former HC at Southern Miss.

He also recently started following Sterlin Gilbert - OC South Florida

Sterlin Gilbert and USF had the 9th rated rushing 54th passing and 16th ppg this year.

Harell would be another OC that would fit well here.

Both would be good hires.

Greg mcElroy makes a prediction of a huge amount of assistant coach turnover at the end of this month after early signing day. LINK
It might be beneficial to wait and see who might become available. Granted most are going to be let go for poor performance but a few might be fired for personal differences with their head coach. Interesting...
