The nonsensical fanatic part of me is excited that this could even begin to be a thing. Apparently Morris and Venables have a really close relationship and Morris is who got him to come to Clemson. I could totally get behind a lower paid HC in the $3.5 million range and a co-HC/DC in the $2.5 mil range, I think it would be genius.

This irrational fanatic side also thinks this could've been part of the reason our PTB were so inexplicably high on Morris over some of the others and where the "Venables in talks with Arkansas" rumors came from, just not in talks for the HC position.

That being said, the rational side knows there's almost no way this realistically happens. Why would he leave Clemson where he's competing for NCs yearly for the same position at Arkansas? Crazier things have happened but I just don't see it.

Agreed but I think it is still a good sign. I don't think after missing on Venables that we would get some underwhelming hire at DC.

Also, I could tell you where the rumors really started, but what's the point? Nobody would believe it anyways.

First of all, it isn't Morris who got him the Clemson job. It was Terry Don Phillips.

Totally agree. Pulling this off is next to impossible, but it could happen.

I think there are a few things in our favor to pull this off....following my few things is my scenario for what may be going on right now.

1. We are not far from where he is from
2. He wants the Kansas State job. He would not be located far from that and it wouldn't be as far of a move for his family once he took that HC job.
3. He is very very close with Chad.

That is about all I can come up with. Last night I did find it odd that a coach from Clemson would get in with Arkansas fans and do the hog call. Something with that situation led me to believe something, I am just not sure what. I know we have had talks with him and they have been consistent talks. That is the reason I picked him to be the head coaching hire. So possibly this thing has been brewing for a while, Venables met and talked to a few folks before leaving Little Rock today and the deal was finalized.

With the time lapse here, it would be interesting to know if Sexton also represents Venables. If he does, this is where the issue of time right now is coming into play. We aren't working out one contract, we are working out two.
