Looking to get my grandson a watch this Christmas for graduating law school and passing the bar examination.

In your opinion, what's a great, versatile (can dress up and dress down) watch in the $1,500-$2,000 price range?

Thanks for your thoughtful responses and help.

Watches are personal. If spending 2k I'd let him pick it out with you tbh.

The Rockwell Commander Elite is a nice watch. It’s only $900. Get him this and put $1k in the box and he’ll be happier than a fig with two assholes.

Tag, Omega, Breitling should all be in that range.

You may want to let him pick it out. I’m picky with watches and I’d hate to feel forced to wear something I really don’t like much simply because grandpa bought it for me.

Awesome gesture and idea, though.

Depends upon the style he likes but Movado has some nice ones in that range.

Omega is a solid bet in that price range - if you can find anything.

However, in that price range, I would give a hard look at the Nomos Campus Nacht. Conservative, easy to dress up or down, in-house movement, and a bit quirky (California dial, colored second-hand). Also, a realistic 38.5 mm size. Will not stick out at all, but will be reliable. Probably will not be popular choice around here, but I like it.

You can find lower end Omegas or Breitlings in that range. Maybe a Tudor.

Plenty of Oris watches.

If it were me, I'd get a 1200 Oris Big Crown ProPilot and 500 bucks cash. But I have more heirloom type watches already, so if this is his first nice watch he may have a different perspective

Tag Aquaracer is what i got for graduating. I can wear it with anything pretty much. There are a lot of different styles.

A quartz Grand Seiko might be found in that range. That would be your option for "best" in terms of accuracy and reliability in a classically styled watch.
