Former wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales, announced Tuesday as having taken the same position with Dan Mullen at Florida, spent the day in Mississippi targeting Callaway wide receiver Malik Heath and Hinds Community College wide receiver Stephen Guidry.

Mullen called Heath Monday evening and told him his offer still stood with Florida and for Heath that meant a lot. Florida has always been a dream school for Heath even before Mullen was hired as the head coach. With the addition of Mullen, Heath said it's starting to feel like it was meant to be.

quote:

They are the top dog right now," Heath said. "The way Coach G (Gonzales) came down here to talk, that was important. It’s somewhere I would commit to. Florida has always been a top school of mine. When they first offered me I was so shocked I didn’t know my talent was good enough to go to Florida because so many great people have come out of Florida. That’s always been one of my dream schools.”

Like Gonzales, offensive line coach John Hevesy has left Mississippi State to take the same position at Florida. He was also in Mississippi, specifically in Greenwood with offensive tackle Kwatrivous Johnson. But Johnson indicated he remains a Bulldog.

The only two good WR we had while Mullen was here were Fred Ross and Chad Bumphis. Ross was a guy Tim Brewster brought in...at the last minute. Tim Brewster did more WR recruiting in like 2 days than anyone on Mullen's staff ever did. Bumphis was brought in by Croom.

Mullen had a top 10 draft pick WR sitting there right by him and could not bring him in. Gifted a pro ready WR and could not bring him in.
