Not really. Sexton would still have a ton of contract leverage after a 10-2 season and a win over Bama.

If the rumors are true that Gus wants to come home, he will be the head coach here unless Auburn is in the playoffs.
If those rumors aren't true, he was never coming here no matter what happened.

I’m not talking about his alleged desire to come home. I’m referring to contract leverage.
We’re not giving up the farm when he’s 9-3 and coming off his 4th straight Bama loss. 10-2 and an SEC West title is a different story on both sides with regard to contract talks between him/Sexton and both us and Auburn.

Our GOBN didn’t pay millions of dollars to liquidate the Athletic Department with the intent of hiring Mike Norvell.
I like and want Norvell, but to suggest that Gus isn’t or wasn’t Plan A is rank insanity.

If these "ol boys" went off of what was happening back in Oct then we'll get what we deserve.
With so many programs now open there will be crazy bidding wars for
Sun Belt coaches before this is over.

The hope is that our GOBN doesn’t overreact and do something stupid like go hire Jeff Fisher or someone like that.
The positive is that this probably clears up the picture to a degree. Hopefully we’re not dicking around with Gus while other coaches get away.
Provided a “big fish” isn’t out there biting (e.g. someone like a Gundy), best bet would be to let the events of next Saturday play out, which likely end in us hiring Norvell.
