Trey Schaap Says This Is Berts Last Game

On buzz pregame show said this is officially his last game and there is already a search committee being formed for his successor. First media I’ve seen to “officially” say it. We’ll always have the Texas Bowl and 4th and 25 Bert. Wish you the best but it didn’t work out.

As I just said on Hogwild Gameday on @1037TheBuzz this morning, sources have confirmed that Bret Bielema is coaching his last game as HC of the Arkansas Razorbacks today.

If we hire Malzahn (or he passes), that’s proof enough that there was no search.
I worry about a committee driving this search, and fully expect them to screw it up despite having a guy 5 hours from campus who desperately wants our job.
The last time we had a committee, they got absolutely played and we wound up with Nutt over Tuberville. Orville’s famous “I am furious” column is indication enough that Broyles was pissed.

Quick aside — with Ole Miss winning the Egg Bowl last night, Bert will finish last in the SEC West for the 3rd time in 5 years.

If he loses today he’ll finish with a worse win % then Danny Ford. Not ideal.

I can understand why they feel the need to use a search committee for this hire. There are a lot of heavy considerations that are gonna go into this hire.
They have to balance getting a big name hire that can immediately reinstil fan confidence while on a somewhat stringy budget.
I wouldn't want to be the one responsible for making this hire.

As Feral noted, my biggest concern is having another Nutt fiasco. You can get too many hands in the cookie jar with these things and then it becomes a game of politics instead of who is he best candidate.

I have it on good authority that S&C coach Herb will give the pre-game speech and I even have read the text of it. I will share it with you all now.
"Sometime, when the team is somehow an underdog to a bad Missouri squad, and we can't stop stepping on our own dicks... tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the fat frick. I don't know where I'll be then, probably the unemployment line, but I'll know about it, and I'll be hungry."

Glad Bert is out. Hate losing to Missouri, but it is inevitable.

I don't get the Bert hate. Yeah, he writes a check with his mouth now and then that he can't quite cover, but I think his intentions are good.
I like what he wanted to do with our team, I liked the 'real American football' plan. It looked liked he was slowly but surely building it. I think he had a plan, and was working it.
Unfortunately, the key recruiting aspect for it was harder than he thought - getting stud offensive linemen. And to a lesser degree, defensive linemen. If we had those, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.
I honestly believe he tried, and I do appreciate him for cleaning things up a little as far as team character.
