Out of town tailgate experience for Kentucky game--RECAP

My wife and I have the rare chance to get to the UGA Kentucky game this weekend AND to leave our kids back home with their grandparents .
It's time to party like it's 1999 again.
Wondering what sort of pregame experiences you guys would recommend. We are staying about 1.5 miles away on University with a different set of grandparents - but we've done the just walk to the stadium thing from there no real pregame festivities last few times we've gone .
Any pre/post game suggestions for a couple of 40year olds looking to reclaim their youth for a day?

Load up on copenhagen so you can bark brown dip spit and whiskey into wildcat faces.

From which direction are you walking the 1.5 miles in?

My grandparents live just a block from five points, usually just walk down lumpkin

Perfect.
Stop at the shell station for dip, beer, and $100 from the ATM.
Walk to Cali n Tito’s for some excellent cuban food.... cash only and byob (that’s why you stop at the Golden pantry first)
Eat your food before it gets cold and drink your beer before it gets warm , make friends with strangers.
Get to-go cups, pour beers in them, go down Lumpkin toward stadium and stumble through some tailgates.
Separate post coming for after-game

Terry Business building (S. Hull St.) has a mix of “older” college kids to “younger” alum. Always has a crowd and is a fun place to tailgate. A couple buildings are open and provide bathrooms along with the 25 portApotties. There are always tailgates there with TVs watching other games and seems to always have corn hole and other games going.

Regarding post game . The plan is to hopefully ring the bell and then head downtown, not sure what's the best places to go anymore . . . Used to like whiskey dicks but I think that's gone now? Like i said last four games we've been to were either in Atlanta or we had to get right back home to the kiddos... this isn't that time :)

First thing you have to know is that less than two weeks ago we were here for MNF:
But now onto our UGA recap! Had an amazing trip. First stop was the bookstore after a 10 hour drive, got rewarded by seeing Hairy Dawg and the greatest mascot of all time.
Game day! Went ahead and took some deep rig advice to start off
Skip ahead a bit we hit the dawg walk , tossed a game of cornhole with a cool couple from Augusta and got to our seats at about 3.
Was good to be back in Athens as the last couple of games we've caught have been on the road. Amazing seats. Amazing seniors.

we went and rang the bell got on a 2.5 hour wait at Transmet (great pizza) and killed time during our wait stopping in at cloud , cutters and a moonshine bar. (Was a good reminder that we are old now haha) and finally walked it back from downtown and did the 10 hour drive back Sunday.
Go Dawgs!

Glad you had a great time!

Haha, I was at transmet, too. Probably my favorite pizza in Athens. Their Sicilian pizza is fricking great. We had a drunk kid sit down at our table on Saturday, pass out, briefly wake up, take a bite of my friend’s pizza, and then we had to kick him out.
Glad you went to Cali N Tito’s. Such an awesome place. It is probably the place that miss the most since leaving Athens 11 (gulp) years ago.

I travel to Ashburn once or twice a year for work, I need your advice for things to do that won't raise red flags on my Amex.

My wife got to chatting with the owner at transmet for a good 15-20 minutes, was kinda wild -- at the end we get our bill - 4$ - needless to say we left a fat tip.
Cali and Titos was good fun and good food. I actually enjoy the byob aspect and it let us chill some before the game with no pressure to leave.

Hit me up when one of those trips gets closer, it's not exactly my neck of the woods but my company HQs is there so I know my way around

something about being too close to a school to have a liquor license...

Doesn't make sense, the burger place down the street even closer to campus sells beer. The seafood place across the street, Marker 7, absolutely sells liquor.
I think they just don't want the hassle, cost, and upkeep of dealing with a liquor license and an alcohol distributor, in addition to the fact it is counter service, and people getting back in line to get another beer would just clog up the line, so they'd have to make two registers and have someone actually pouring drinks, whereas right now it is self serve.... the owners probably don't want to deal with the hassle when they've already got a good thing going.
