Our tackling was so much better earlier in the year. Now everyone tackles like Santos. Henre is the only guy who wraps up anymore.

They were talking about that on the radio during the postgame shows. The gist of it was that while it’s great to get a win, the defense is an absolute mess, and there needs to be some immense focus on fundamentals the next few weeks.

but the backend doesn't look bad at all...

The link, right?

nice to see the pickoffs, the strips, etc. This game is a loss without that D today. Although the tackling is subpar.

Yeah but you can't rely on turnovers to bail you out. Defense put them in a hole to begin with.

This is true, but to give up 31 in the first half and only 6 in the second, that is like the complete opposite of the way of things over the past couple of seasons.

The benefits of a lack of depth and an early bye.

I think they do good when we are aggressive. Just seems we don't do it very often. Qbs look like Tom Brady cause we don't bring pressure.

With Curl and Pulley next year, our next DC/HC will be able to blitz and bring 5 or 6 fairly regularly to manufacture pressure.

Let's be real. Team totally flipped the script tonight. They were down 31-7 at one point and won the damn game. It's entirely, and I mean 180°, opposite of everything we have seen from them for 5 years now.

Doesn't matter. Too little, too late.

At this point flashes of the potential is showing for next season, Bert will be begging to coach next year, let's hope the hometown guy isn't hired and parlayes a great first season in to a decade of mediocrity...

The Ford/Bert parallels are very eerie, those who do not learn from mistakes of the past are destined to repeat them...

Iowa State got good because they hired the best coach in America.

I've been saying Bert is this generation's Ford since the end of last year. They are basically the same person at this point

It's easily explained. Effort. There was a lot more to play for early on in the season. Defenses especially feed off of emotional motivation for performance. There's zero to play for while fatass is calling the shots.
