A few years back, I got a ticket on a road trip through Arkansas. It was in Arkansas, but it was pretty close to Tenn, and not that far from Mississippi. I was driving toward Memphis on a country type road and the fattest cop you can imagine pulled me over. Parkin, AR. 47 in a 45. I shite you not. I was so pissed I drove to court later that month (over 5 hours) to contest it. It got thrown out because the cop didn’t show up to the once per month court date, but the judge made sure to tell me that speeding was speeding, and he was having mercy on me, and how I better change my ways.

But I wasn’t even mad, because by that point, sympathy for the people of Parkin, and the delta more generally, dominated my emotions. Words can’t describe the odd country poverty of this place. Court was a busted up old, old, old school. Literally, with hand written signs for some of the rooms, on typing paper, taped to the doors. This building was the totality of their municipal buildings.

And my fellow ticketed citizens were such a pathetically sad lot. I despair of describing them. Not city poor. City poor is rich to these folks. Country poor. Uneducated. Optionless.

So anyway - any other stories from yall’s time in SEC country?

My only story is that sometimes I go to the internet and read really lame stories about people in SEC Country getting speeding tickets.

Seriously?? you do realize that most on here live in SEC country, so you want people to give their life stories?

Like asking you to share stories from your time in GAY country. Geezzzz what a face palm.

This is better for the aggie board.

I thought it was pretty clear that I meant from our time in SEC country while traveling. I got a kick out of the dude who shared his story from LA. Made me remember my Parkin story. I bet some posters have some pretty crazy road trip, SEC country stories.

Sorry I didn’t make that clear.

Petty enough to contest a 2-over speeding ticket. The value of your time so low that you are willing to drive 5+ hours to do so. Yet self-righteous enough to pity a bunch of people you've never met. Sounds about right

I think Arkansas is one of the few away games where it felt like win or lose, we were probably going to have to defend ourselves walking out of the stadium. I've been to 10 SEC stadiums to watch a game, and Arkansas by far had the trashiest and most hostile a-hole fans I've ever seen. This was in Little Rock, mind you, and not on their campus. That was a shite hole stadium as well. Thought I would be able to spend the rest of my trip in lovely Hot Springs, hell no. Don't get caught wearing your team's colors even in Hot Springs, a little kid is liable to come kick you in the shin. Terrible place.

In 2011 I was leaving the stadium in Columbia after we had upset a highly ranked USCe team. I remember feeling as if we stole something. Both teams offensive performances that day set CFB offensive football back 5 decades. The play callers were the HBC and Gus the Genius and both teams looked terrible. I remember walking out quietly nodding to other Auburn fans like we were at a funeral. Looking back USCe might have realized that was the tip of the iceberg as the end of an era with the HBC was coming. I absolutely believe Auburn fans were thankful for the win but we knew more trying days were coming.

As a youngster I used to duck hunt with family that farms around Parkin, AR. Got out of the blind one morning and stopped in a local store to grab a Coke for the ride home.

Nope, all they sold was beer and this stuff

Decided to wait and stop in West Memphis, where I felt safer

Every time one of you says Ar-Kansas to try and rile us up you don't realize it just makes you look like a tard. Y'all are thinking "Ha, I'll mispronounce their state name! That will show them!" While we are thinking "Jesus, he's got missing chromosomes. I feel so bad for his family."

Okay, I got to give you that one, that was funny.

For my sins I've moved back to Marion, Arkansas which is the bed and breakfast community next to West Memphis. Ah... dear old West Memphis, the town that prosperity forgot.

One time while walking out of Bryant-Denny I saw a Bammer couple holding hands and doing the usual lovey-dovey shitck. I didn't think much of it until they came up and started talking to me. I told them that they seemed like a great couple and that they looked like they were good for each other. The guy goes, "yeah, I know, we've known each other ever since I was 2 and she was born. We even shared rooms growing up!" I then came to the realization that this couple was indeed brother and sister.

True story. I have witnesses.
