Deserving and earning are two different things, and they didn't earn it. Were they one of the best two teams in the country that year? Absolutely.
Exhibit B. LSU fan admitting that Alabama was one of the two best teams...which was the purpose of the BCS from day one.
Exhibit C: the notion that "earn" and "deserve" don't mean the same thing.
Seriously, the terminal pussification and stupidity of LSU fans on this topic is something from which they will never recover...to this day they continue to resort to moronic mental gymnastics to attempt to justify their condition.

Bama won the title game, so they obviously deserved to be there.
Of course they will say it's difficult to beat a team twice in one season, while completely ignoring the fact that Alabama did just that in 1999. They beat Florida in the Swamp in OT before absolutely annihilating them in the SEC Championship Game two months later.

Thing is, if LSU would have blown out Bama in the first meeting that would help LSU fans arguments.
But LSU wins a game where no touchdowns were scored, needs overtime, and needed Bama to miss what 3/4 field goals?
Don't get me wrong I do agree to a certain extent that you need to win your conference to play for the national title. But when the two best teams are in the same conference WTF do you do?
The BCS actually got it right that year and LSU fans cried about it.

They are still crying about it. They will cry about 20 years from now.

You guys made it to the championship game with a chance to win it all. Had you been the best team that year you would of won the title but......
Yes, it must be easy when it doesn't matter how you play, or if you lose. All you have to do is look good, and you can fall backward into the championship game instead. Much easier.

LSU had to play an extra game. Bama did not. This is football, not baseball, it makes a difference from a physical standpoint. LSU won the same number of games Bama did that season and split with them head up. I'll take it. And BTW, I've never bitched or moaned about it. That's just the way it worked out.

Which would have been seen as an obvious ploy to create the easiest path to an LSU win, not match up the two best teams...which is the ONLY purpose the BCS ever had.
True but at the end of they day, the job is to what you have to (legally) to put your team in the best position to win. If that means lobbying to make sure you don't have to play the best college coach in the business twice in one year.......so be it.

More pussification and stupidity. Emotion is all you have to base your belief on.

Now I can't really disagree with this point. I'm just saying it probably would have hurt more than it would have helped. It would have been rightly seen as a de facto admission by Miles that Alabama was better than OSU...and therefore more deserving according to the stated mission of the BCS to bring the two best teams together.
