When we do fire Avery, it needs to be wholesale. Do not retain Pettway for the next staff. Do not retain Houston. Don't even retain the secretary. Clean out everyone that's been part of this shite since the end of Gottfried's tenure.

Waiting on the Avery apologists to show up and set all y’all straight

There's no excuse for this. There's no positive spin. This is a shite product from a talented team. The blame has to start with the coach. These guys played more than enough games to have their shite together.

Pettway's a good recruiter, but I say we give the new coach the freedom to pick and choose who he wants.
Avery isn't getting fired after this season though. Worst case scenario is we back our way into the tournament next year and retain him too long. Best case the team is actually good next. Average and what will probably happen- we go NIT again, and Avery gets canned.

I agree

I also want to see a plan for Coleman. Tired of hearing how we might do something or there may be some plans in the works. That place is a relic and it’s symbolic of just how pathetic our program is.
If we want to change the culture, we need an arena that is conducive to winning basketball.

This is the same result as every season, except with way more talent. Fans are pissed because we all bought in to buckle up and this being the year.
How are we expected not to quit when most of the team has given up?

This was not being ready to play...for the 4th game in a row. Blame goes nowhere but on the coaches. For not having them ready, for not sitting them down when they shite the bed like this, nobody else takes the blame. It is Avery and Pettway and Pelphrey and I don't care if you think it will cost us recruits or not, this can't be forgiven or overlooked.

I don't think he gets fired either, but what's the positive for keeping him? He is what he is. This is the product we will have as long as he coaches. I'd rather cut bait now and start fresh with a Byrne hire.

I don’t think they fire him, yet. I think he gets next year as a make or break year.
I wouldn’t be mad if he did get canned after this year, though.

He'll get next year, it'll be a repeat of the end of CMG and Grant in which every negative is magnified. Avery will be prickly. The team will crumble. It will be a total waste of a season and then we'll whiff on the big recruiting class.
Fun
Fun

If he’s lost the team and there’s no real upside to keeping him, and if Byrne knows he can go get a proven winner, it wouldn’t shock me if he was let go.

Let’s say we keep him. What is the mood around the program heading into next season after this collapse? We’d all know that Avery was just a lame duck if he didn’t make the tournament. We’d all be delaying the inevitable.
Meanwhile many other programs in the SEC will be widening the gap.

Firing a coach for not making the tournament with a bunch of underclassmen won't be a good look to any candidate. You also risk having guys transfer out. The younger you are the easier it is to transfer unless you've graduated.

If Byrne thinks (or knows) he can get someone worth firing Avery at the end of this season, maybe he pulls the trigger. I just don’t see it.

We are experts on this scenario. We did it with Gottfried and Grant and it ended the way it almost always ends.

Exactly so why TF waste time on it?

I'm a pretty big negative nancy but even I didn't think we could lose all 5 down the stretch.
That's incredible.

"He takes 5* high school players, and turns them into 3* college players". That's a Spurrier quote. Or at least close to it

I have been in the camp that Avery would get another year. I am now hoping Byrne makes a change after watching this tonight.
Avery showed no emotion from what I saw. He did not look "right."
This was embarrassing. A complete and utter embarrassment.
