Gee is that why the dawgs recruited and signed Crowell? The infamous drug dealer/gun dealer?

The following came over a year later, when there was no benefit to the university in any capacity:
quote:
Prosecutors on Wednesday dismissed firearms charges against a former University of Georgia running back who was arrested last summer when Athens-Clarke police found a stolen gun in his car.
While police had good reason to arrest Isaiah Crowell for the gun that was under the driver’s seat of his car, authorities were unable to find evidence linking the 9mm Luger semiautomatic pistol to him, according to the dismissal document.
“Based on the fact that the weapon involved was located under the seat of the car that (Crowell) was driving, there was certainly probable cause to arrest (him) ...,” Western Judicial Circuit Assistant District Attorney James Chafin wrote in the dismissal notice.
“However, as there is no other evidence to connect the defendant to the weapon, the state would be unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that (Crowell) possessed the weapon found or even knew it was there,” Chafin stated in the dismissal.
And we still dismissed him from the team. At best you've got possession of an illegal firearm... no drugs, no alcohol, no mass quantity of weapons for dealing... did you enjoy the trip down fantasy lane that you took?
Do we really want to go down the road of pointing fingers at criminal athletes? ahem... Hernandez...

In all fairness, UGA recruited and signed Crowell long before his status as a drug dealer and firearms enthusiast were common knowledge. He was dismissed from the team after CMR and the university found out about his extracurriculars.
UGA may have turned a corner with the ridiculous suspensions/dismissals. Honestly, it has yet to be seen but I think CKS will take a Bama approach to the situation, if the guy is talented, they may get second chances. Saban gave a kid from UGA after he was dismissed from the team for domestic violence and it payed off because the kid was talented.
