It just goes in the face of the weird idea in the national media that Saban is some sort of pearl clutching conservative. Anybody who has watched us knows that is far from the truth. Saban sees targeted trick plays and fakes as ways to shift emotion and momentum in games. Almost all of his fakes are at specific instances to stem momentum or bury a team.

We ran a fake punt early in the 1st quarter in 2010 at Penn State down 3-0 at our own 40. Barely got it.

The 4th and 2 against Auburn in 2014 near midfield is what swung the game. If we didn't get that we were fvcked.

We ran a fake punt against LSU in 2013 on our own side of the field tied 17-17 with 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter that changed the game. Outscored them 21-0 the rest of the way.

Meant to put this in the OP

This thought first popped in my head last year when the media was acting like Chris Peterson and Saban were from completely different planets
