I find it funny odd that so many State fans hang their hat on a midseason ranking. I've never seen a fanbase do it after the fact.

Aggy research indicates this claim is more smoke and mirrors. Aggy has found that the Merlin did not take Moo to a bowl last year through his own magic. Moo went to a bowl with a 5-7 record b/c there were not enough eligible teams. Moo was the little sister taken to the big school dance by the brother who couldn't get a date.
