Original article was 6.4 million this year, 3.2 next, but now.. WOW
this is the latest I have been able to find on the contract. Buyouts...
He wont go anywhere this season, but after next?...
Will we pony up 3.2 million to get another coach?
hmmmm

WRONG>>> Good Lord...
buyout numbers are: $15.4 million from 2015-17, then $11.7 in 2018, $7.9 in 2019 and $4 million in 2020

Isn't there offset language though? If he gets another job, will his new salary offset some of the buyout levels?
Still though, that contract in and of itself should be a fireable offense for Jeff Long.
Here's hoping Bert throws up his hands at the end of this season and says "frick this" and bolts back to the Big Ten.

Yeah, but why would he...
Seriously... That is incredible. It was originally going to be the first amount above, but .
Long has us stuck with Bert for a while still.

Now that I really consider what long has gotten us into. I want him fired as well. It was a one sided contract. Its huge. He got it for nothing.
I understood the need for stability. The only stable thing is how inconsistent and awful we have been with bert.

It's an absolute fireable offense for Long and he knows it. I figure the boosters will eventually cut the check after this 4-8,5-7 type season, but Long will get the Axe also.

Everyone on here knows my opinion about Jeff Long, but regarding this absurd contract, not all of the blame lands on his plate.
He can't/doesn't write this stupid extension with the Foundation's blessings. So, I for one, could care less if these boosters have to write a fat arse check, they are the ones that signed off on it.
My concern would be money hesitation on recruiting our next coach.

He's the one who architected and sold it to the RF and the BOT.
The GOBN/PTB/whatever had its faults, and there were warts aplenty during the Nutt era, but they can come in handy and serve as controls when you have an outsider head coach who underperforms because they're the ones who turn the screws on the AD. Long eradicated that network and/or reduced its power and influence, and this is where it has gotten us.

Ditto. The real worry is that we have to go bargain shopping for our next coach because the donors/Foundation/BOT don't trust Long financially. Granted, it's worst case, but it's a concern nonetheless.

True, but I'm basically saying that the Foundation can share some of this blame

Bert and Long are a package deal.
BOT will axe them both after next season.

Pay him the buyout and head west an hour and a half and get a coach for cheap.

Are you thinking Gundy?
Why would he be cheap?

No, Montgomery. Tulsa HC. Former OC at Baylor.

I don't see this ending well for our football program.
People laud Bert for being this great guy, but he can get extremely salty on when things don't go well. Remember the Twitter barbs and social media wars with fans? It happened at Wisconsin and it happened here in 2015 after Toledo and Tech.
I doubt he goes too quietly into the night, and he isn't exactly a guy you want coaching your football team in a lame duck year.

Tulsa was 5-19 the two years prior to him taking over.
Year one, they go 6-6 regular season and lose bowl game finishing 6-7
Year two, they go 10-3 losing at Ohio State, at Houston 31-38, and at Navy 42-44.
Year three, 1-1 so far with a loss at OkState.
As OC at Baylor, the Bears went 30-9 and scored a shite ton of points running and passing.
