I hope the AD has a record/play quality decision point set on canning Sumlin. If they know they are going to make a change, they should name Chavis or Mazzone the interim head coach and direct that we get as much playing time as possible for the younger players and position Sumlin's replacement for early success. We should not keep Sumlin the entire year. Start the search for a replacement as soon as we know we are going to make the move.
I don't mean that we should sit upperclassmen that have earned their starting spot, I mean we should implement rotations and keep getting the young guys game experience.
It is really too bad Sumlin chose to use the UCLA game like an NFL exhibition game. No idea what was going through his head thinking that getting Mond his first game experience in this game was a good idea.
Did anybody ask Chavis why we didn't jam the UCLA TE at the line of scrimmage?

We'll have plenty of opportunities to fire him later in the season, but should do it by at least midseason.
Hubenak should be starting. Mond was a Hail Mary, maybe he'll be like Johnny, roll of the dice. Except he doesn't have the arm talent, accuracy, or elusiveness.
ETA: Not saying Mond can't get there, but it was obvious in the Spring that he needed a redshirt year to hit the weight room and work on mechanics. It was unfair of the coaching staff to put him in that position.

I am betting that Sumlin is going to double down in the next game and start Mond with a short leash to Hubenak. We are going to see a bunch of zone read with Mond like we did with Knight.
I would have liked to be a fly on the wall in the strategy sessions with Sumlin and Mazzone on Mond's readiness to play. I can't imagine that Mazzone was telling Sumlin that Mond was ready to carry a team on his shoulders when we absolutely needed to score.
I absolutely hate rotating quarterbacks. Sumlin seems to be one of the few coaches in football that thinks playing multiple QB's against a quality opponent is a good idea.

tRefrain for Sumlin's tenure outside of his decision to start JFF, tbh.

Mond was not ready. You could see it in his HS highlight reel that he was very athletic, but still raw at QB.
And with our track record of not being able to develop players, I just don't see Mond getting any better this year. Especially after throwing him into the fire on a huge road game. As bas as Hubes may be, Sumlin fricked up by not putting him in over Mond.
But oh well. I'm down with whatever gets Sumlin fired the fastests.
