That's great for him! But eveytime a QB signs a deal they become the highest paid it seems.

Said to be $135M over 5 years.
And the boob job is already paid for.

Good starting quarterbacks have more leverage than anyone else in North American sports besides LeBron.
He's been pretty good for the most part. If Detroit lets him walk and starts a backup, they're a cellar dweller. I've always thought that there isn't much difference between most NFL rosters besides OL and QB. The 1998 Vikings was the best offense I've ever seen, but that team goes 6-10 if they have Brock Osweiler at QB. Good QBs are the hardest thing to find in sports.

All of that my be true, but Stafford being the highest paid QB just is silly wrong,

The basketball players are getting $200 million. Giancarlo Stanton is getting $325 million. The money is ridiculous these days

That's because the fans are even more stupid.

At face value, sure. But it's solely indicative of the current market, cap room, and timing of the signing. Every top 15 qb that renegotiates his deal is going to be one of the highest paid players until the next top qb signs his new deal. That's going to be the way it is as long as there's a scarcity of quality starting qb's.

That's definitely the kind of glowing review that merits the highest pay ever for a QB.

The fan numbers have been dropping. It's the TV bucks that are driving it.

Considering he's a damn good QB and the only thing on that team worth a damn, there's nothing silly about it. The only reason Detroit has become halfway respectable, the only reason they've done anything is because of Stafford. He has put up prolific numbers behind awful offensive lines and no running game to speak of, with middling defenses to boot. That team last year had no business being in the playoffs. He was the reason they were there. They win maybe one game without him last year.

And what's behind the TV bucks? Fans. If not for fans, there would be no demand.

So fans are stupid for watching games on TV?

No, but for creating the demand that drives such outrageous salaries. Do you think that if the TV market wasn't there that the players would be paid as much? Or merchandise?
The salary issue is driven from the fans, whether they go to the games or watch it on tv.

So what? Have you seen how much NBA players are making or Premier League soccer stars?
Doesn't bother me one way or another

Except that the tv ratings are down, too. Fans simply aren't going to as many games or watching as many games. TV bucks come from advertisers, not viewers.
