Buccaneers' Peyton Barber: Could see increased role early in season
quote:
Barber could see extra work during the first three games of the regular season while Doug Martin serves a suspension, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
First, Barber must overcome the uphill battle he faces in earning a roster spot, although Martin's absence for the first three games certainly improves his odds. The 22-year-old flashed some aptitude in the passing game during Sunday's practice and has also drawn praise from coach Dirk Koetter for his work ethic and power running, but his pass protection on third down remains a work in progress. Barber's fate likely hinges on his performance in preseason games, with the fact that he was able to prove his mettle in multiple games during the 2016 season also counting as a point in his favor.

I hope he succeeds. Great story and even better person.

Can't believe Chris Davis hasn't found a team. Before some concussion issues, he found the field for the Chargers and looked solid as a backup guy

Arizona Cardinals: Karlos Dansby,
Pretty crazy he's still at it. What an athlete.

Rudy Ford should get some solid playing tonight against the Cowboys. I don't think AZ is playing any starters. Football is HERE!

Robert Leff and Chad Slade being on rosters still surprises me. Good for them!

Good old Melba.
I can remember saying "oh damn" every time a QB chunked a deep ball his way.

Is AU linebacker U?
I'm going to do some research and see how that compares to other SEC schools
EDIT: looking at the text I quoted from AL.com article they say 7 but I don't count 7. I am on my phone so that could be part of reason. It also doesn't jive with ESPN list of player by college but that's because it lists Lawson as DE.

Marvin Lewis: Carl Lawson is 'going to get unleashed'
quote:
CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Bengals rookie linebacker Carl Lawson couldn't help himself.
Lawson, frustrated with center Russell Bodine in the heat of the moment, found himself pushing and shoving. Lawson's helmet had been ripped off during the play, and Bodine's helmet soon came off, too.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, aware that practice had gotten heated among other players the day before, quickly put an end to it.
"Did he hurt you?" Lewis barked. "No? Then move on."
Lawson said later he knew he shouldn't be fighting. But considering Lawson moves constantly at top speed, sometimes it's hard to hold back. Lewis said Lawson's biggest problem, if it is even a problem, is getting him to slow down.
"The difficult thing about Carl is that he's a million miles an hour," Lewis said.
The Bengals coach, who clearly wasn't too concerned Thursday as he talked with a smile about Lawson, would prefer he takes things a little slower.
"He's going to get unleashed," Lewis said. "It's a hard thing. He's trying to be impressive. Well, he's impressed me enough."
quote:
The Bengals have had just one week of training camp, but their fourth-round pick has been one of the more impressive players on the field.
quote:
Lawson has worked at both defensive end and linebacker, with the focus Thursday primarily at defensive end. While Lawson is listed as a linebacker, he's more of a hybrid of both positions, and will likely be used a lot as a pass-rusher. The Bengals had only 33 sacks last season.

Saying Lawson is "going to get unleashed" assumes that Marvin Lewis actually has a leash. He has less control than Richt did.

Uzomah currently undiagnosed lower leg injury. Had to be carted off.

Ricardo Louis is having a really good camp with the Browns. He's separating himself and securing the #3 WR spot behind Britt and Corey Coleman, despite having a better camp than Coleman.

"He is making plays," Browns coach Hue Jackson said. "Ball was in the air, and he has to go dominate the ball. He made some plays today."
Louis, who caught 18 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown as a rookie last season, was on the receiving end of another tough catch for a red zone touchdown later in the practice. He drew praise earlier in the day from his receivers coach, senior offensive assistant Al Saunders.
"Ricardo Louis is just a different guy," Saunders said. "He is playing with speed. His routes are better. His technique is better."

Maurice Swain returns to NFL roster in time for preseason games
quote:
Former Auburn defensive lineman Maurice Swain is getting another chance in the NFL after the Kansas City Chiefs added him to their roster on Monday.
Swain had signed the Detroit Lions as a free agent after going undrafted in April. The Lions released him on June 8.
Swain joins the Chiefs as they are preparing for their opening preseason game. Kansas City hosts the San Francisco 49ers at 8 p.m. CDT Friday. NFL Network will televise the game, joining it at the conclusion of the Pittsburgh Steelers-New York Giants game, which starts at 6.
Swain becomes the 11th defensive lineman on the Chiefs' roster, including former Central-Phenix City standout Rakeem Nunez-Roches. Swain filled the roster spot created when Kansas City released outside linebacker Reshard Cliette, a sixth-round choice in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Listed on the Chiefs' roster as 6-foot-5 and 314 pounds, Swain played at Auburn in the 2015 and 2016 seasons after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He made 14 tackles as a senior.
