With the amount of money that Newton has made over the years and he is still probably getting some nice cheddar from endorsements and investments, I cant imagine this salary means a lot to him. You have to feel like he is either holding on or just does not want to fade away. The likelihood of him turning his football career around at this point seems pretty unlikely.

I wonder if he is hoping to stay in the league just long enough to hook on with a team (even as a backup/bench rider) to get a ring.

Not many folks can say they have a Heisman/MNC/NFL MVP/Super Bowl.
