Your premise is wrong to begin with. A State fan didn't start the phone records digging, Houston Nutt did.

Lulz, my understanding is this Steve character was digging through the phone records for his tell all book and noticed the number...he called Nutt's lawyer he met through a 3rd party. Nutt and his law dogs need to suck this Steve off for the gift.

Exactly. The correct chronology is that Thomas Mars (Nutt's lawyer) shared the phone records with Steve Robertson, a State fan writing a book about OM cheating, who Mars characterizes as "obsessed" which certainly seems accurate. Steve then found the escort # and let Mars know.

From the ESPN article: "When Mars advised Tyner about the call Freeze made to the escort service, he told him that he'd shared the phone records with Robertson."

Sequence of events is clear in the ESPN article.
