Where were you and what were you thinking? I was at home, running a 102-degree fever, watching this thing in the floor in front of our TV.

I was in elementary school at the time so I missed it. I was sitting in some sort of assembly thing in my school auditorium listening to a man talk (can't remember what about), but the one thing I remember is he said something about Nick Saban had just talked minutes ago and he quoted something Saban said. I'll always remember being there bc it's such a special day in Alabama football history.

I was a sophomore at Bama living in a house behind tutweiller. I just remember waking up early to watch his press conference. I can remember my gf being like what's the big deal? I basically told her well we aren't going to suck anymore.

Just graduated from college and I re all the media attacking us HARD since Shula got fired. People forget Dolphins had a shot an outside playoffs when Saban was shooting down rumors. Saban did a decent job in NFL considering Miami roster was mostly over the hill, Jason Taylor respected him. Sabah would have won with San Diego Chargers.
That said, I shocked he won four NCs at Bama. I knew he was good, but he was never this great at LSU.

I don't remember the press conference. But I'll never forget watching ESPN's recruiting show after the news broke. At one point Lugs and that balding dude looked at each other and said something like, "Alabama will close strong. Next year they'll start signing #1 classes. And will start winning national championships in 3."
Lugs looked like a deer in headlights while telling everyone that Alabama was about to take over the sport.

I was a senior in high school that had already decided to attend alabama in the fall. Needless to say I had made a good decision and the next six years were fricking incredible

I was in 6th grade, and I had been rooting for Saban to be selected so badly, even though it didn't look likely at all. I was ecstatic that he changed his mind and accepted. I still remember how that felt. I remember thinking about the potential of him being a championship coach for Alabama, and just thinking about *finally* witnessing Alabama win a national title, and I had high hopes. (Auburn and Tennessee kids were always teasing me for liking Bama growing up, so you can imagine.) I just had a feeling he was going to be a good one. Maybe it's cause I was a kid, but I wasn't even cautiously optimistic - I was so positive.
I'm grateful for what a great coach he's been for the Tide.

Me too. My dad wanted Spurrier but I knew that Saban was the best recruiter the south has ever seen so I wanted him really bad. I didn't know about his process or how insanely driven he was to be the best at his craft. After seeing this first pc I had a gut feeling we were about to rise to the top of the SEC even with Urban having built a juggernaut at Florida. The last decade may never be repeated again but who knows, folks said the same thing after Bear's run in the 70's.
