Do you think we can poach a coach from a big time program?

Some fan favorites seem to be Dan McDonnell at Louisville and Brian O'Connor at Virginia.

I doubt we get McConnell from Louisville. Pretty sure he makes over 1 million per year, and I think Chad makes about $350k.

I would take UVA's coach in a heartbeat though.

JMHO ~ there aren't too many 'top tier' realistic options.

Carolina won't draw a current HC coach from the SEC or ACC. as expected, the big 10 was frauded out in the regionals this weekend so no thanks to any of those sitting coaches.

I'd be ecstatic with Mervyl Melendez, who just finished his 1st season at FIU with a 31-27 (15-15) record - winning 3 of 4 games from UMiami and also beat Mississippi State. 18 seasons as a college HC.. 12 NCAA regionals. 11 conference COY awards. built Bethune into the program that just dumped UF last night and playing for a Super spot today. he even coached Alabama State to an NCAA regional.

43 years old, born in Carolina, Puerto Rico. grew up in Orlando and can recruit the hell outta the state of FL. he got a nice contract from FIU and may not want to leave after 1 year. If I'm not mistaken, isn't Frank Martin an FIU alum??? he might could persuade him - in Spanish no less.

...watch Miami or FSU go after him once Morris/Martin hang it up.

I also think Ray would be well served to have very lengthy conversations with Coach Pollock from Presby - if indeed Tanner is of the mindset he is gonna make a change.

I would literally take this over holbrook, at least his interviews after a loss would be more coherent.

I've been trying to ignore and stay out of this forum for awhile because I was dressed down after our Garnet Society function in February .... was standing there when mUSChamp got the word about McElwain.

But frick it ... hopefully I've stayed out of this forum long enough that the stalkers from the FGF have quit lurking every day.

FWIW - I'm in Ann Arbor right now. I hope this is our guy and he's not just dipping his toe in the water for a big raise up here. It appears to me, from what I am hearing, that he is genuinely interested and Michigan AD is scrambling to sweeten his deal before the official meeting with Ray takes place.

So he seems interested. We're going to have to overcome what Michigan is scrambling to do to keep him though. They are really stepping up to the plate with their attempt to keep him here.

I toured their facilities today - our baseball facilities are far far nicer than theirs although they are now promising him an upgrade.

Our #1 selling point is year round training because of better climate, which he is well aware of - our historic attendance, a better chance for him to win national championships and he'll make more money here in the long run with a less expensive cost of living. Plus our talent base .... and he's already got great connections in the D.C., Virginia, Maryland footprint that he can lure down to SC as well.

I think we have a real shot at this if he is willing to eat some of the buyout.
