all you are doing is reciting a magazine that is staffed by liberal arts people who don't hire anybody. US News rankings are about selling magazines.
I calculated the other day that if Clemson reduced its undergrad enrollment by 60 percent to about 7000 students, it would be as selective as Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech is actually about 3000 students smaller than Clemson despite being in the 8th most populated state.
US News doesn't take this into account when looking at selectivity.

They were #20 last year. Not anymore though (#23).
