If it had ended up with just Aggy and Texas joining he Big 8 the conference would still be solid today, but Texas can't handle not having all the say. If they did join they couldn't ruin the SEC because they wouldn't have the leverage.
Texas needs to have some sense of power at all times. They won't join unless they get some leverage on the conference.
