Nah he was a SDE coming out of HS
Well Marlon Davidson was a WDE apparently and he's playing DT.
It looks like y'all should have a solid group though, especially against the run. The secondary will have to be solid however as you guys might struggle some with getting to the QB
ETA: I'm looking back at some Auburn games. Montravius Adams is a ridiculously strong anchor in the run game. You guys are going to miss him a lot.

Bama has some studs. Payne might be the best DT in the conference. Hand has incredible athleticism and size. His closing speed is unreal for a guy that big.
Buggs and Ray are the big newcomers. Tons of potential there but they haven't done anything yet.
Bama has another interesting talent with Raekwon Davis. He's a bit of a giant. He saw some playing time last year and could be a real force in stopping the run game.
Josh Frazier will be a solid depth guy but he hasn't shown much NFL potential so far.
Quinnen Williams is a redshirt guy who gets a lot of love from several message board "insiders" so there is some expectation that he will be a good player. We'll see.

Another arse whooping giant Alabama DL.
What about pass rushers? What can we expect for the Tide in that field?

Wat?
Davidson is a starter at DE and where was he ranked as a WDE? On the 247 composite he was the #4 SDE in the class of 2016 LINK
For a guy that weighs 285, he's not half bad at rushing the passer though

Yeah we will. It'll hurt this season but (and I know this sounds homerish) I believe Derrick Brown can end up just a little better than Adams. On paper Brown is an Adams clone:
Derrick Brown- 6'5" 315
As a recruit #9 overall, #5 DT, #1 in Georgia
Montravious Adams- 6'4" 310
As a recruit #10 overall, #3 DT, #2 in Georgia
And they have a similar playing style. I think Brown is a little more athletic though.
But the reason I feel Brown will be better is effort. The knock on Adams by NFL scouts (and AU fans) is that he didn't give a ton of effort until his senior year when he was looking to earn some money and raise his draft stock. Scouts said his junior and senior film is night and day effort wise. He took plays off but one scout said he basically took his whole junior year off. This is keeping him from being a sure fire 1st rounder, although his combine has some mocks starting to put him late 1st now.
Brown didn't get tons of playing time because of our depth at DT, but he got a decent amount and he always gave 100% on every play. If he was in the game, you knew it.

Weird. When you click on his profile it says WDE.

Interesting. That might explain why I didn't notice him at all in 2015
If he ends up as good as or better than Adams then there should be little to no drop off in run defense for y'all.

Probably the usual suspects will have an elite DL. Bama, LSU, Auburn with Georgia, Tennessee and Florida having really good ones. Plenty of SEC teams will have pretty good ones. The position is usually a strength in our conference. I think the best individual one is Daron Payne.

Don't forget Andrew Williams for Auburn as well, who might end up being our best DT. He got a ton better last year and rushes the passer well from in there.
The post about pass rush is right. That is really the only question. We have some true freshmen and a converted LB that we may use at BUCK to be pass rush specialists. I think Holland and coe can do it as well, but it'll be a group effort more than a one man show like Lawson could be. Big thing is I think our DTs will be involved, and outside of Russell who is a cloggers they all can do it. I think if we get the passer we'll it'll be more of a pocket collapsing front than an Arden Key, Lawson type terror coming from the edge every time

Good topic for offseason and looks like my only upvote for you. But besides Alabama and LSU, I think alot of people may over look our line since it wasn't the best last year. But we have a couple of great guys coming back with high motors in Speaks and Haynes, mixed in with some other guys who improved alot. I think Wiley and Jones are going to be good and a few more people will not expect. Our linebacker play has killed us but swapping our D up this year and getting guys in the right positions may just help those out.
They are basically going into this year with the attitude of nothing to lose and a chip on their shoulders. Not at all saying they will be the best. I just think they may surprise alot of people. At least I hope so..

Dongbo has stepped up as the leader of this group, per back channels, and even has them all speaking to one another in clicks to make adjustments and confuse the offensive line.

LMAO @ Dongbro employing tactics similar to a Navajo Windtalker

Auburn is in the conversation
DE- Marlon Davidson, Nick Coe
DT- Derrick Brown, Antwaun Jackson
DT- Donravius Russell, Byron Cowart
Buck- Jeff Holland, Paul James III
It's funny this got 6 down-votes. Because it's Auburn? It's not earth shattering to say AU will be in the conversation. I dunno, this place is where intelligent football conversation goes to die.

I really like the Speaks guy. Wanted him at LSU. Hope he pulls off a stellar junior or senior campaign.

They had an awesome DL last year so I don't know why it'd be much of a surprise to anyone.
And hey, at least I'm trying to spark some intillegent discussion
