I hope so, too.

I still maintain the belief that BBQ places are better in the rural areas, but I really hope he does well in Charleston.

South Carolina BBQ is the best anywhere in the US, especially the pulled pork with that sauce.

The flavor and process of smoking is completely different from that in Texas and the southwest

This is the correct answer. Downtown has some good barbecue at three or four locations now though. All off shoots of single joints that became successful and opened locations downtown and charge more for the same product that in one case is only ten minutes away.
ETA: vinegar based is the bomb imho. Also, if the sauce is on the meat when you order...leave immediately and tell them why.
