Meh, if you dropped MSU/Starkville or OM/Oxford into a larger city like Nashville, then they would be practically the same location. When both the campus and the town are small then they seem further apart, I guess?

they are far apart relative to other similar college towns. it's not a big deal

True story.

The entire area known as "Dickson Street" used to be called "depot town" way back yonder.

That's because it was the area where the train depot was located, and it was located "between" the town square of Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas campus. Look up a walking map from Old Main (which was the university's first building) to the Fayetteville town Square (which used to be "Fayetteville"). It's 1.3 miles, walking.

It grew up with bars and stuff over time as the city grew steadily, so it's all just "downtown" now.
