It depends on what was discussed before the check. If it was already disclosed, and this is just being used to screw him out of the job, then that's one thing. If it wasn't already discussed and indicated that it wasn't a problem, and then it came up as new info in a background check, then Carter has no leg to stand on.

I would guarantee you that the school, any school, has a policy about criminal convictions even misdemeanors that preclude you from being hired.

That said, I will acknowledge your point that Kiffin could have mislead him. More likely is that the coach didn't tell him that or that Kiffin is just clueless.

...but with misdemeanors on his record, he probably doesn't have much of a leg to stand on.
