You sure as shite can instill confidence in players. That's a huge part of good coaching
you're moving the goal post a bit here
players don't miss shots because of coaches...ever
John Petty can shoot a basketball. He failed at that last year b/c of something in his head. When he figures that out or stops worrying about it, they'll fall again. Coaches telling him it's going to be okay won't help him. He has to get over whatever it is, the speed of the game, fear of failing...whatever it is.

Given his comically extreme home/road splits I'm guessing it was either just lack of comfort playing in a new, unfamiliar arena for every road game or some sort of travel anxiety. If it's the former I expect him to be a lot better this season since nothing will be new to him.

I would say Pettys struggles on the road were because he wasnt comfortable with the backdrop/depth perception of other Arenas. Similar to a hitter in baseball not being comfortable with the batters eye at some stadiums.

I'm just saying, that I've yet to hear about a kid who lives in the gym practicing shooting that has a long term mentality problem
If you practice enough at a high level, the mentality will fix itself.
See Aaron Gordon. Got the yips in college shooting some 45% FT despite hitting some 70+% in practice. Gets to the NBA and his FTs are just fine
If you practice it, the buckets will come
