Just ran into Avery Johnson at breakfast. Very gracious guy. Makes me even prouder to have him at Alabama.

he's still a three star on the composite but a five star on the 247 rankings.

Jones had a breakout great showing this spring at an even and 247's National guy Jerry likes giving exposure to under the radar kids. At Nike EYBL he wasn't can't miss 5* special. He won't stay a 5* by the ending. He probably is the 3rd best G in AL behind Diante Wood Sacred Heart and Tony Johnson Eufala

Jones is basically Dazon Ingram for comparison. A SG who will play PG due to his size, not his playing style. That type of player can be good, but Bama won't have a lot of free scholarship space to bring in a project player

247's National guy Jerry has a thing about overrating kids in the rankings to give them exposure if they are unknown. He definitely isn't a legit "five star talent"

It is weird that he hasn't gotten much interest from any instate program. Grades are reportedly not an issue either, he was supposedly in the running to be valedictorian at Huffman

He does do this, but he has had a track record of success with predicting the unknown guys rise in rankings. He was the first to predict Sexton's and Herb Jones's rise. He called Otto Porter's stock blowing up when he was at Rival's. He's not scared to give kids big jumps in the rankings.

The Myreon Jones ranking might be one of his weirdest to date though.

He was the first to predict Sexton top 10 player, but everyone else was moving him into their top 100 after his EYBL/USA performances

Herb Jones rise? I mean he was considered a 3* by most and not highly sought after

What's weird is that he did it before EYBL where Jones ended up being just okay, nothing special.

His HS career isn't any more special than Diante Wood or Johson

I think Dazon played PG because he was the only starting talent that could. I don't see the Jones Dazon comparison. Dazon is two inches taller and will pass up tons of open shots. Jones is a volume scorer. He shoots a lot.

Sexton was a top 150 player before EYBL on 247, which no other site had him close to. And there's a huge difference between a site moving a player into the top 10 VS top 100.

Herb Jones is a 4-star on Rivals, borderline 4-star on ESPN (He has a 79 rating, 80 is 4-star). The only site that didn't like him was Scout and they didn't rank him at all (often happens when sites haven't seen enough). Herb Jones didn't have a profile on any major sites and Meyer ranked him as a top 50 player out of the blue (very similar to Myreon Jones). Herb tapered off, per usual, in his rankings to 113 and 153 composite (thanks to Scout which is easily the worst of the 4 major sites). From what I've heard, he's been doing very well in practices and people keep saying he's someone to keep an eye for this season.

Meyer is the best in the business right now IMO. I go by 247 composite rankings the most, because it gives the opinion of all the major recruiting scouts/analysts, but he's by far my favorite analyst.

I just would say Jones is closer to Herb than a5*. Not a bad recruit with potential, not expected to be YR1 difference maker Like a 5*. I just don't like that Meyer doing this is all

For Dazon comparison, I meant it more in that neither Myrron or Dazon are true traditional PGs though they can play it. I think SG is Jones ideal position but 6'3 isn't huge for that depending on wingspan
