It likely cost them nothing. They had very little chance to win that game when he did that. Without the time out, the clock would have run out on them.

Yeah what's lost in all this... His teammates and allowed him to dribble the ball up court and then he dribbled into a corner...Was doubleteamed and couldn't pass out of it, he traveled initially...
The TO was trying to get out of a doomed scenario.
