Cardale Jones was ranked an 87 composite 3 star. Ohio State recruited him because of his size and athletism. He turned out to be a pretty good college QB. He also ended up drafted near the 5th round.

Dwayne Haskins was ranked 95 on composite and also turned out to be a pretty good QB that Urban and Company liked. Another noticeable thing - athletic QB with good height.

JT Barrett was ranked 93.5 overall by 247 and was not quite as tall at 6'2 but also recruited by OSU because of his dual threat ability. OSU didn't skip a beat and none of these guys were 5 star all world QBs.



Dwan Mathis is rated 90 ovr composite so higher than Cardale Jones and a little bit lower than Barrett and Haskins. What you see with OSU is they have a specific type of QB they favor. One that has good ability with legs but prefers to throw. If you look at Mathis tape you will see that he is a QB first. He has good movement in the pocket and the ability is there. It's up to our coaches to coach him up and make him a player but he absolutely has the tools needed to succeed which is why OSU wanted him. It sucks to lose Fields but I have no doubts Mathis can play high level D1 football as a QB.
