As far as I know, they still have a "broiler" in every store.

In the 60's and 70's they had a conveyer broiler like the modern pizza oven in a place like Papa Johns. would be pulled down a metal rack as one side cooked then be flipped and taken back so the other side could cook. It was a gas flame so it cooked like on a grill and the end result made the signature burger. I think they were also the "have it your way" slogan before Wendy's really got going with fast, custom made hamburgers.

There is a local burger joint that still has that old conveyer system and they still pop out some tasty burgers. Until a few years ago they were selling broiled hamburgers at 69 cents and broiled cheeseburgers at 79 cents but they were decent sized burgers not those Krystal sized ones. Still not sure why they stopped using them and went to microwaves as the system worked pretty well and microwaved hamburgers are just nasty.

This is exactly what we had and that was in 1996. Maybe the phase out was a regional thing? We definitely still used that sucker. Worst days of my working life were the ones where I had been assigned to the broiler. Six hours or more of just standing there in front of this fire breathing POS throwing raw, frozen burger patties in its mouth. All. Damn. Day.
