Thanks

He'll be on thinners for life too. The hospital is pushing his insurance so we can get the "blood thinning detection" machine (or whatever the hell it's really called) for the house; since it costs about $3K I sure as hell hope the insurance company comes through. It will make it a whole lot easier for him to test to make sure his blood is the correct "thickness" or whatever the hell that's called.

He's not wild about any sort of diet

I had an "in home" device once too... it turned out to be a waste for me. I had to call and order the test strips, go through this crazy phone tree to enter my results, the insurance was a headache. I sent it back and went back to using Labcorp. I pop in, sign my name, get stuck, walk out. An average visit takes me about 7 minutes and costs me $3.66 (after insurance) per visit. They send the results to my doc, a nurse calls me within 24 hours and, 9/10 times she says, "all's well, keep it up." But occasionally she'll tell me adjust my meds according to my blood being too thick or too thin. And the blood thickness term is "INR". And the diet thing isn't a real issue so long as you stay consistent.
